Simple Weight Loss Tips - Add More Fiber
By Peggy Edwards
Here is a weight loss secret that is easy to implement and is good for your health as well.
Add more fiber to your diet!
The recommended daily amount of fiber is 30 grams. But did you know that the average person in the U.S. only consumes 15 grams of this recommended amount each and every day?
Why is increasing your fiber intake so important for our diets?
It's important for many reasons including:
- It helps make your stomach feel "full" quickly, and this helps with weight loss
- It add very few calories to your diet
- It helps reduce your overall cholesterol levels which keeps you healthier
- It helps slow down the release of blood sugar into your system
There are several nutritionists and health experts alike who all agree that increasing fiber intake can help you lose up to 5 pounds in only 4 months. In addition, you'll reduce your intake of food by 10%. That's pretty impressive by just adding a little extra fiber to your daily eating habits.
But how do you go about eating more of it?
Good question, but I think you'll enjoy the answers.
One of the best ways is by simply eating a bowl of cereal in the morning. That's right, throw out the Fruit Loops and replace it with a high fiber cereal instead.
Read the labels and look for a cereal that contains at least 10 grams of fiber per half cup. In fact, some will contain upwards of 15-20 grams per half cup. And a half cup of cereal is not much at all.
Cereal isn't the only solution though. Add some fresh fruits, beans and other vegetables that all contain fiber. You'll quickly exceed the 30 gram a day barrier. Even whole grain breads can help in this area. If you will read labels, you will be surprised at how quickly you can increase your daily recommended amounts.
One word of caution though...when you start increasing your daily intake of fiber, you will also be increasing your "regularity" in the bathroom. You may want to combat this side effect by gradually and slowly increasing your intake. In other words, don't "shock" your system by doubling and tripling your fiber intake in one day. Ease into it and you should be in good shape. The only other side effect that a few people may experience is gas or bloating, but this is not in all cases.
